Carson compared to Hitler?

Rachel Carson a writer for the United States fish and wildlife service seemed to be very mild -mannered. However according to media she has more blood on her hands than many mass murders. Rachel Carson has been compared to Hitler.   Rachel Carson book Silent Spring detailed the dangers of pesticide DDT, which had previously eliminated malaria.  In ten years the environmentalist movement convinced the powers to eliminate DDT. When DDT was eliminated millions of people in Africa died due to the environmentalist dogma.

My infectious disease interst : Influenza

Influenza commonly known as the flu. The flu is a highly contagious viral infection affects the nose, throat and lungs. Influenza is a serious infection afflicts 60 million people a year. The flu impacts people at every age.
The best way to protect from Influenza?  The best way to protect against influenza is vaccination.
It is better to get vaccinated during October and November. However, vaccination is still beneficial after December or even later. http://www.nfid.org/influenza

Infectious Diseases/ Parasites 1

Parasites Yikes!!
The CDC estimates that there are thousands of parasites in the United States alone. Parasites are biochemically complex creatures. They are categorized according to function, reproductive ability and shape.

My parasite of interest is the: Dwarf Tape Worm
List of parasites: Hookworm, Giradia lamblia, pinworm, trichinella spiralis, flea, Trichuris Trichiura, Ascaris lumbriodes

Dwarf Tape Worm

The dwarf worm only grows 1. 5 inches. It does not need an intermediate host just one mammal can host its entire life cycle. Draft worms have small heads with single ring hook and cup-shaped suckers.

How can the dwarf worm infect humans? The worm can infect humans when eggs are ingested from food or water that has been contaminated.

What kind of infection does a dwarf tapeworm cause? Diarrhea, itching abdominal pain, headaches and digestive complaints. If the symptom is severe then body weakness, weight loss and dizziness can occur.

.Infectious Disease List
Actinomycosis,  Bootulism,Cholera, Ebika hemorrhagic fever, Influenza and Legionellosis

Global Warming!!!!

Humans are not the only problem that is causing global warming. Some scientists believe that humans are a small factor to the global warming issues. Volcanic activity and permafrost melting every year can have serve changes in weather pattern. The reason it is hard to blame humans for the global warming scientist believe that humans have not been around for billions of years to have a strong affect.
The information below can be found at this website for further info  :http://www.geocraft.com/WVFossils/ice_ages.html

The information below will help explain some historical background of unexpected weather patterns.

"Global warming started long before the "Industrial Revolution" and the invention of the internal combustion engine. Global warming began 18,000 years ago as the earth started warming its way out of the Pleistocene Ice Age-- a time when much of North America, Europe, and Asia lay buried beneath great sheets of glacial ice.
Earth's climate and the biosphere have been in constant flux, dominated by ice ages and glaciers for the past several million years. We are currently enjoying a temporary reprieve from the deep freeze.
Approximately every 100,000 years Earth's climate warms up temporarily. These warm periods, called interglacial periods, appear to last approximately 15,000 to 20,000 years before regressing back to a cold ice age climate. At year 18,000 and counting our current interglacial vacation from the Ice Age is much nearer its end than its beginning.
Global warming during Earth's current interglacial warm period has greatly altered our environment and the distribution and diversity of all life. For example:

Approximately 15,000 years ago the earth had warmed sufficiently to halt the advance of glaciers, and sea levels worldwide began to rise.
By 8,000 years ago the land bridge across the Bering Strait was drowned, cutting off the migration of men and animals to North America.
Since the end of the Ice Age, Earth's temperature has risen approximately 16 degrees F and sea levels have risen a total of 300 feet!Forests have returned where once there was only ice."

The World 18,000 Years Ago

Before "global warming" started 18,000 years ago most of the earth was a frozen and arid wasteland. Over half of earth 's surface was covered byglaciers or extreme desert. Forests were rare.
Not a very fun place to live.

Our Present World

"Global warming" over the last 15,000 years has changed our world from an ice box to a garden. Today extreme deserts and glaciers have largely given way to grasslands, woodlands, andforests.
Wish it could last forever, but . . . .

Barcharts of the distribution of water on Earth Around 97 % of water is found in the ocean.  Only three percent of water is  freshwater.  Glaciers and icecaps are about 69 percent of fresh water which is locked up and mainly found in Antarctica. Fresh water can also be found on the ground below.
ga.water.usgs.gov

Water needs to be accessible which means easy to obtain.  Many places still  lack adequate water supply which  is a global issue and has been one of the greatest failures of modern development.

Potable Water is safe drinking water for humans.

Contaminated Water   Where is contaminated water? Contaminated Water can be found any where. Water that has been treated can become contaminated if exposed to acid rain, storm runoff, pesticides and wasted.   Contaminated Water can cause health affects many are chronic which means it has a long lasting effect.

Where in the world are good and accessible soils for agriculture? Wetlands
Wetlands can provide an adequate habitat for many plants and animals.Wetlands can be drained and used for agricultural purposes. They can also be used for residential and commercial development.  The reason wetlands make great agricultural fields " because of  their  productive soils ,high water table and flat topography." Farming equipment is also great when used on wetlands.   http://www.soil.ncsu.edu/publications/Soilfacts/AG-439-26/ .... learn more

Where are tribal groups? Tribal Groups are located all over the world.  Did you know Brazil has over 100 tribal groups. Despite the fast pace lifestyles that many people belive about Brazillians they have many tribal groups.

Diversity!!!
It is hard to pinpoint what coutries have the greatest amont of ethnic diversity. Many countries that have great diversity are usually one's that have high populations.  The United States, China , Canada and Indina are fast growing coutries that have a wide variety of ethnicity.  However some cities in these countries do not have a wide range of diversity.

Coutries that have the least amont of ethnic diversity are places like Korea. Korea is a hard country to enter  which is why it lacks ethnic diversity.

Human Population

"Go Forth And Multiply!" That's what the human population has successfully been doing for thousands and thousands of years, expanding, exploring, migrating, conquering, utilizing, evolving, civilizing, industrializing, and now, destroying the very land upon which we live.
"Many feel (as has been the case throughout history) that the major international wars to be fought in the future will continue to be over natural resources. Power conflicts and self-interest will perhaps mean that there will be gross violation of basic rights and death or misery for millions of innocent people. Throughout history, most wars have had trade and resources at their core (leading to ideological battles) fueled by imperialistic motives. In the future, while this pattern is likely to continue, as resources get depleted and wasted in these wars (hot and cold), additional conflicts and contention will arise through access to even more limited resources."http://www.globalissues.org/issue/198/human-population

People all over the world are living longer than ever the  average age being 70 years of life. Since the average age is risen so are chronic diseases. Which means the quality of life is being depleted with chronic conditions.
There are 6 billion people in the world and some scienctist consider this number to be high and over populated for the world.  Recently , studies have shown that over population is not the issue it is simply the way we choose to live.

Global Issues Hw 1

Focus Area: Eastern Europe

Discussion:  Child health and pollution in Eastern Europe are some topics we could discuss.
